Conditions We Treat
What is MeRT?
- Quantitative Electroencephalogram (qEEG), also called “brain mapping,” a diagnostic tool that measures electrical activity in brain wave patterns. Performing a qEEG allows us to tailor your therapy to exactly your brain patterns.
- Electrocardiogram (EKG/ECG), a test which records the electrical signal from the heart and shows Brain/Heart relationship.
- Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), a non-invasive form of brain stimulation that magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain. This is where the magic happens and inactive pathways are stimulated.
The key to MeRT is the initial testing with the qEEG. That’s because the EEG report will show any imbalance in brainwave activity, which will differ from patient to patient.
Once we see the imbalance in brainwave activity, we can then develop a personalized treatment plan to strengthen healthy brainwave activity using our customized magnetic stimulation, using FDA approved equipment designed specifically for this use. The TMS equipment delivers gentle magnetic pulses to those specific areas of the brain which are not functioning as they should be. This can improve brain connectivity and communication, and in many cases, has greatly reduced symptoms.*
Currently, MeRT is FDA-approved to treat Major Depressive Disorder. Treatment for all other conditions such as Autism, Concussion and PTSD is considered “off label.” However, we expect FDA approval soon for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

The Steps of MeRT Treatment
The MeRT treatment protocol involves four specific steps: Testing and Evaluation; Analysis and Treatment Plan; Assessment Period; and Progress Evaluation.
Please click the boxes at right to learn more about each step of MeRT treatment.
At your first appointment, we will perform the qEEG and EKG. These tests measure brainwave frequencies, heart rate, and brain-heart coherence.
By doing these tests, we can see the unique frequency pattern within your brain. The tests are simple, non-invasive and painless, and we perform them right in our office.
Then, once we complete the tests, we send them to our team of scientists and doctors to evaluate the results.

Frequently Asked Questions About MeRT
MeRT Treatment Featured on The Broken Brain Podcast
Mark Hyman, M.D., is a highly respected physician and best-selling author. He founded the Cleveland Clinic Functional Medicine Clinic and created a podcast called The Broken Brain, focusing on anything that could affect the brain and overall health.
MeRT was featured on an episode of The Broken Brain as an exciting new treatment. In this episode, Dr. Erik Won, President of Wave Neuroscience, talked about how he used MeRT to treat members of the military.
Many of these veterans had traumatic brain injuries or concussions. And many experienced PTSD because of their experiences. Dr. Won discussed some of the incredible successes achieved with MeRT treatment.
MeRT Treatment for Autism Featured on “The Doctors”
Many children with autism have seen miraculous results after going through MeRT treatment.* “The Doctors” interviewed Dr. Spencer O. Miller, who has been using this treatment. They also spoke to some moms of kids with autism and heard their amazing success stories.
