Autism Treatment with MeRT

A New Solution for Autism

When you are dealing with an autism diagnosis, there’s nothing you wouldn’t do to help your child break free from that trap. You see their pain and overwhelm every day. And you want so desperately for them to live a happy, productive, fulfilled life.

But finding an effective treatment can be incredibly stressful. An autism diagnosis is different for every child, so treatment must be individualized. You may have tried several different therapies and medications to help your child progress.

But sometimes, no matter how much you invest in autism treatment, you don’t see the results in your child that you so desperately want to see. You need a solution. And more importantly, your CHILD needs a solution.

MeRT, or Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy, just might be the solution you’ve been looking for. This breakthrough treatment uses gentle magnetic waves to balance and stimulate brain function, guided by sophisticated imaging and diagnostics.

And MeRT has shown some remarkable results in patients with Autism Spectrum Disorder — results like improved communication, better mood, less overwhelm, increased control of their environment, and much more.

We are a Certified Brain Treatment Center

MeRT: A Safe, Gentle, Effective Approach to Autism Treatment

Here at Redefined Mind, we offer MeRT, or Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy, to treat Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This treatment is completely drug-free and non-invasive. And we take great care of our patients on the autism spectrum to ensure they have a comfortable experience throughout their treatment.

The key to MeRT is the initial testing with a qEEG (quantitative encephalogram), also called brain mapping. The EEG will show electrical signals in the brain of a child with autism that differ from those of a child who does not have ASD. After a thorough analysis of the test results, we can then create a customized treatment using TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation, an FDA-cleared therapy).

The TMS delivers gentle magnetic pulses to those specific areas of the brain which are not functioning as they should be. This feels like gentle taps on the head. By doing this, we optimize brain communication to be more organized and in sync. This can allow the patient to function at a higher level, and in most cases, to have better communication skills, social skills, and more independence.

Additionally, MeRT can be used alongside other therapies, such as ABA, and has been shown to help those therapies work even better.

“We’ve seen some promising results in autism.”

EEGs (electrical pictures of the brain) can tell us when there are abnormalities in neural networks. … And we run that data through a normative database, and we can see, for example, if somebody has an area in the left prefrontal cortex that’s cycling at two Hertz — which means that they may be only processing information two times per second — whereas the rest of their brain may be cycling 11 times per second. …

[MeRT] was engineered to be a brain optimization technology where we’re trying to increase the coherence, [so] different areas of the brain can communicate with each other and improve the metabolic efficiency of the brain. With that in mind, we do see some improvements across a number of different dimensions. We’ve seen some improvements and some promising results in autism.”

A Mother’s Story…

Life was completely miserable. “Raquel suffered from extremely high anxiety. We couldn’t go to a mall or a restaurant or the movies. We couldn’t even drive with her in the car without the panic attacks and the screaming. My daughter lived in her own little world, and we weren’t a part of it.”

On the first day of therapy I thought my daughter wouldn’t cooperate. To my surprise she seemed to enjoy the procedure. Obviously at the end of the day I saw no changes in her behavior, but I did not expect to see results so fast. The story takes a really unexpected turn for all of us at the end of the second day of therapy.

We went back to the house of some relatives, where we were spending the night, and Raquel approached me, with a glass between her little hands asking me to give her some “Juz”. There are no words that can express the emotions that I felt at that moment. It was the first time I could say that I had heard the voice of my 4 year old daughter. Incredibly this was not all. A few minutes later my daughter went out to the garden of the house, approached a lemon tree, took one and brought it to her face to smell it. When her sister took the lemon from her hands, Raquel demanded loudly “My, Lemon?” Only two days of therapy had passed and we suddenly had what seemed, for the first time in her short life, a normal child.

At the end of the second week of treatment, we arrived at the Clinic excited and Raquel was there, sitting by a window. She was pointing to the passing cars and asking out loud: “Blue Car?”, “Green Car?”, also an airplane “Blue Plane with White?”

Most incredible of all was that not only had she improved her ability to communicate, but her emotional projection also took a 180-degree turn. My daughter now asked me to pick her up and carry her in my arms. She hugged me for the first time voluntarily and repeatedly for more than 15 minutes. Aside from improving in language, she also improved her emotional connection. They were the most beautiful 15 minutes of my life. My daughter recognized me and expressed it openly and freely for the first time.

Since that day she did not let me go, everything she wanted to do, was with me. When I realized these great changes I began to carry out other activities with my daughter. After 3 weeks of therapy Raquel even tolerated going to Disney. We knew at that point that the frightening part of our lives was over,” said Miriam. “It’s truly a miracle.”

Autism Spectrum Disorder Is different for every child. MeRT addresses the INDIVIDUAL nature of autism.

Autism affects everyone differently. Even if a child is diagnosed at a similar level as another, they can still have individual symptoms, ways of dealing with the outside world, and communication methods. And each can be very different in their behaviors and development. So, it makes sense that autism treatment should be unique to each patient.

That’s what makes MeRT such a breakthrough. By focusing on each patient’s unique brainwave patterns, we can treat their symptoms far more precisely than through past methods. And that can make all the difference when it comes to treating your child’s unique symptoms — and unlocking their potential.

Frank and Mary’s story with their son, Frankie.

In the third week, something happened. The family was driving around sight-seeing when they realized that they were getting lost in the California desert. Mary and Frank began to argue, and right in the midst of it, the moment they had waited six years for finally came. “I remember he said a seven-word sentence basically to the effect of ‘I want you two to stop fighting.’ And it shocked me so much that I almost stopped breathing,” Frank recounts. “I looked at my wife and said ‘Do you realize what just happened? He just said a seven-word sentence.’ I had tears in my eyes, and I was happy at the same time. He was so upset that it pushed these words through.”

From there, Frankie’s progress snowballed. They returned home after only a month, but the difference between the child who arrived in California and the one who left was striking. They had taken a video of Frankie on the plane when they started the journey, “and he’s just making baby babble,” Frank says. “We have another video of him on the plane coming back. And he looks out the window and says, ‘Goodbye California, see you soon.’ This was a nonverbal kid, 30 days later. And his feet are flat on the ground.”

Doctors said Frankie would continue to improve even without regular MeRTalbeit a bit slower. Today, he is 11 years old, verbal, and attends a public school. He tells Frank stories about times when he wanted to speak but couldn’t. “He goes ‘You know, I’m so glad we went to the brain treatment because now I can talk,’” says Frank.

Starting Autism Treatment at Redefined Mind in Cypress, Texas

Since MeRT is a relatively new treatment, you may have questions about whether it’s right for your child. We want to make it easy to get all the information you need, so your first step is a simple phone consultation with our New Patient Coordinator. During this free consultation, you can discuss your child’s symptoms and history, ask questions, and learn about the treatment in full.

At that point, should you decide to get started with MeRT treatment for your child, we will set up a series of appointments. The first two appointments will last approximately 45 minutes each. Then we will begin your child’s assessment period to see how the treatment may benefit them.

Testing

Your first appointment will involve performing a qEEG, also called brain mapping. This is a simple, painless test performed here in our office. We place a cap on your child’s head to measure electrical activity in their brain, and we also record the heart’s electrical signals with an EKG.

This testing will map out any areas in the brain which are not performing as they should. Then, our team will carefully analyze the test results and develop a treatment plan customized to your child’s specific condition.

    Consultation

Your second appointment, after we have fully reviewed the test results and created the treatment plan, is a one-on-one consultation with the doctor. You may attend this appointment in person, or if it’s more comfortable, you and your child can attend virtually from your home.

During your consultation, we will discuss your child’s test results with you and cover our treatment protocols. We’ll also answer your questions and let you know more about what to expect during your child’s assessment period of treatment.

      autism

      Assessment Period

During the assessment period, we will perform two weeks of treatment (9 days total) followed by a new qEEG. This will enable us to see how your child is responding to the treatment. We will review the new test results compared to the one we did initially and note any positive changes. We will also look for symptom improvements at this time.

If we see a positive response to treatment, you will have likely noticed some improvements as well. At that point, we will schedule additional MeRT treatment in two-week intervals.

At the end of each two-week period of treatment, we will take another qEEG and EKG to monitor your child’s progress. We will also consult with you every two weeks to confirm that the test results are continuing to show improvements. This entire time, we will be caring for your child with the utmost compassion. We know how important this treatment is for your child — and you — and will ensure we create a positive, comfortable experience.

You should know that most conditions treated with MeRT provide noticeable results after four to eight weeks of treatment, and these results are long-lasting. However, each patient is different, and the results may vary.
